A Brief Encounter with the Game Show Kind.

During the initial ideas stage of piece we looked at the work of a number of theatre companies to see if we could use any aspects of their work in ours.  We had already looked into the possibility of mixing live theatre with prerecorded film.  One such company I looked at was Kneehigh Theatre and their adaptation of Noel Cowards stage play Still Life and his screenplay for Brief Encounter.  This production incorporates live action on stage with film footage on a cinema screen behind the actors.  The film footage compliments the live action and interacts with it in such a way that transitions between live and film are absolutely seamless.  We took this idea and tried to use it to create our game-show idea.  We want to present it to the audience as being a live thing and obviously some of it will be because we will be in the theatre performing it.  The footage of Kelly going about her challenges is going to be presented as being live and the audience will have some degree of control over what happens.  We want the live action on stage to interact with what is going on on the screen in a similar way to how it does in Brief Encounter so it will appear to look as though the game-show presenters are giving Kelly orders.
